Gloria Dei is located in Huntington Station,
Suffolk County, New York. We've been blessed with both beautiful and
bountiful worship and recreational facilities. We're nestled amidst a
beautiful neighborhood of tree-lined streets, yet we're less than a block from a
main thoroughfare (Route 110 - New York Avenue).
The Gloria Dei campus spans several acres,
and includes Gloria Dei church, the Lindgren Chapel - home to Gloria Dei Nursery
Pre-School, Olson Hall, the parsonage, landscaped grounds, and a large (two
acres), paved parking area.
The Gloria Dei church building is a large red
brick-faced structure. A classic white steeple sits atop the gray slate
roof. Two two-story white columns flank the double doors in the front of
the church. The church is handicap accessible.
The sanctuary seats 700 at worship
services. The interior provides many outstanding artistic tributes to the
glory of God: the white marble altar; the hand painted mural on the wall
behind the altar; the etched glass windows (imported from Germany); the stained
glass murals between the narthex and the sanctuary.
The church pipe organ provides outstanding
accompaniment as we raise our voices loud singing praise to God in the
traditional Lutheran style.
In addition to the sanctuary, this main
building houses the church offices, the sacristy, and several other areas.
There's a choir room downstairs from the narthex, and an upper room used for
Bible studies and Confirmation classes.
Olson Hall is another large two-level brick
building on the campus. It was initially designated the educational
center. The top floor provides a gymnasium (with basketball / volleyball
court), a stage, and a full kitchen.
This area hosts large gatherings -
accommodating more than 200 people - for fellowship luncheons and dinners,
family night movies, athletic events, and our choir's annual cabaret show.
Olson Hall also hosts meetings and special events of our affiliated scouting
groups.
The lower level of Olson Hall serves as the
Sunday School classrooms, and also provides a youth room for small gatherings in
comfortable home setting.
We've recently undertaken a "Peace
Garden" landscaping project that includes teak benches and trellis, a gray
flagstone walk, moss rocks, and various plantings. The "Peace
Garden" is a serene setting for prayer, peace, and contemplation.
We're also creating an outdoor worship area - the granite altar has been placed
under a canopy of trees.
